The double doors slid open, letting Doc and I step into a ballroom sized chamber. I lazily scan the arena, finding nothing but blinking lights and metallic emptiness.
"Well Monty, this is the battle simulation zone. I trust that you are fully prepared for today's training session?" said Doc, tuning a teched out Pokegear on his watch while trying to send some attention over to me.
"Hmm, Lets see...Pokemon? Check. Ring? Check. Music? Check. Yeah I'm raring to go. So what's so special about today's match that's got you so giddy?" I said,
Taking away the Pokegear before he completely loses his focus on me.
"Now, now, Monty be patient. All will be revealed in time."
Doc smiled and began walking back through the automatic doors, disappearing from my vantage point. Once he was gone, the Pokegear in my hand started to beep and I press a blue button to activate it.
"By the way this Pokegear is the headset that will be connected to communications center so that we can interact during your training, but only if necessary." Doc said through the mini-phone.
"I hate to be a party pooper, but this thing doesn't look like a headset." I replied.
"Well then press the shift button." He said, and I pressed it as commanded.
The Pokegear transformed into a pair of glasses that had came with two small mechanic discs.
"I fitted this headset to your likeness. The discs connect to the inside of your headphones, making them into a soft wireless communicator in conjunction with the headset."
"Sweet! Thanks, Doc, you really know your stuff. These are just my style," I said as I slipped the discs into each side of phones.
"One last thing: you didn't let me finish the headset, so it won't display anything on the lenses yet until I can get my hands on it," Doc added. Oops, my bad.
Slipped on the head phones and the cyber glasses. I released Luxray from his PokeBall, who was looked excited to say the least. His fur was sparking up random jolts of energy and his eyes held an intense gleam.
"Ready for anything, aren't you, buddy?"
Luxray let out a strong roar and I proceeded to pet him. We didn't have to wait long for a large virtual screen to pop into existence. The screen displayed Doc looking as serious as I have ever seen him.
"Bryan, today you will be battling one of the most ferocious Pokemon on the planet. This will be a true test of endurance and skill. Any limits I set on you through the course of your training will be lifted for this match. I want to see you go all out."
I was a little surprised at his change in demeanor, The young prodigy doesn't get so intense for no reason, especially when talking with me! He didn't even use his pet name this time; Doc must really want to get the point across.
"Understood."
"Well then, good luck. I'll be monitoring the match from the com.station," he said, The screen phased out.
"Simulation activating. Step One: 'Battlefield' commencing." The Simulation AI announced. The entire room began to shine, so I covered my eyes to resist the blinding light. As the light died down, I thought it safe to bring down my arm. As normal vision returned, the room had been transformed. We stood in the middle of a mountainous valley, the heavy mist rolling around us. I could hear the roar of the ocean not far from where Luxray and I were standing. Wow, Doc, you never cease to amaze me.
"Step Two: 'Identification' commencing. Challenger: Bryan Anderson vs Simulation Code Name: D001."
The AI produced a virtual screen at this time, showing my head shot along with the picture of a question mark on the other side of it.
"Now Step Three: 'Engage.' Warning... Battle will begin in 3... 2... 1!"
As soon as the AI finished the count down, a thunderous roar ripped across the valley. Luxray jumped to his feet, his body tensing up for the fight. I waited still next to my partner, hearing strong wing beats approaching us.
"Hmm, wings huh? Wings equal a high chance that this one's gonna be a flyer, so I've that aspect covered solid. So what could it be...? Huh?" My analysis was cut short by the huge ball of blue energy that crashed into the ground.
The earth below Luxray and I exploded, sending me on my ass with my buddy following my example. I tried to see what attacked us, but all my eyes caught was the mist. Suddenly, a huge gust of wind hit us from above, I looked up above and finally got a look at our opponent.
"Holy crap...."
Doc wasn't kidding when he said he put us against one of the most terrifying Pokemon alive, because staring down at us was none other than a Salamence. It was tough trying to keep calm under such an intense presence, even Luxray backed away a bit. I figured it had to be Salamence's Intimidate taking effect. The mighty dragon Pokemon let out another roar and descended on all fours.
"Well aren't you something? Just looking at you tells me this one's gonn-" I stopped mid sentence to avoid being hit by another Dragon Pulse!
Salamence charged us at high speed, its claws glowing in a strange energy.
"Luxray, use Ice Fang!"
The lighting lion bared its fangs as frost began to cover them, Luxray met it's charge. The attacks collided and an explosion ensued! The dragon flew out of the smoke and Luxray skidded out, shaking off the aftermath. I pulled my other two PokeBalls off my belt and threw them down, releasing a Nidoking and a Pidgeot.
"Alright guys, This is going to be rough. Stick together and remember what we did in training!" I yelled. Nidoking nodded and Pidgeot chipped.
"Good! First off, use Defog Pidgeot!"
The large bird flapped its mighty wings, blowing away the mist within seconds. Just as the fog disappeared, the Salamence came speeding back down. It fired off two dragon pulses in rapid succession.
"Nidoking, stop them with Earth Power!" Nidoking slammed his fist into ground, forcing large pillars of magma to spew through the earth. The energy orbs smacked right into them just in time, but it wasn't over yet. Salamence stepped in front of Nidoking with a dragon claw at the ready.
"Megahorn!" I yelled just in the nick of time. The pair dueled with each other, not letting one or the other get in a hit.
"Alright, he seems to be holding his own. Luxray! Pidgeot! Get airborne if you please." They both nodded, Pidgeot picked up Luxray and headed upwards. I looked back to Nidoking who was locked In mortal combat with Salamence. The giant beast was looking banged up at the moment; I guess Scales got in a couple of good hits.
"Just wait a little longer, buddy! You can do it!" Nidoking let out a loud groan in compliance while smacking his horn into the Salamence's face.
A minute later, I saw the flying duo above the dragon, awaiting orders.
"Pidgeot, drop him now!" The large bird let go of Luxray, who began to speed downward toward Salamence.
"Now, Partner! Use Wild Charge!"
Luxray roared and conducted a huge array of electricity around his body, swirling with an incredible speed. As he dropped down from the sky, my ace looked like lighting itself that ready to lay down divine judgement on the virtual reptile. As if on cue, Nidoking slammed his horn into Salamence one more time before he leaped away. Dazed, the dragon stood there with no idea of what was going to happen. When the simulation noticed, it was too late for it to make a move. Luxray ran straight into his spine with enough force to start breaking the earth beneath it. Salamence let out a painful howl and laid it's head on the ground. Luxray quickly recovered and leapt off it's back while Pidgeot and Nidoking returned to my side.
"Now, while he's down it's time for our combination attack!" All three of them nodded in unison.
"Pidgeot, use Air Slash!" Pidgeot gathered wind energy between it's wings, accumulating it.
"Nidoking, use Fire Blast!" Nidoking opened it's mouth and started to form a large ball of fire.
"Luxray, use Discharge!" Luxray's body was engulfed in electricity, waiting for the signal.
"Now.... Fire!" All three Pokemon unleashed their attacks! The sharp wind hit fire blast combine to become a hellish inferno that covered the scaly beast from head to tail. The rush of lighting quickly reenforced the blaze and enticed a large explosion. All of us stood there with a victorious smile. I dusted off my tan hoodie and turned around to look at my Pokemon.
"Yeah, now that's what I'm taking about! That's how Team Bryan does it! I'm so proud of you guys!" I said, ruffing Pidgoet's and Luxray's heads. Nidoking laughs as he lifts me into a huge bear hug. I love the guy to death, but I think he might kill me if he doesn't let go!
As I get back on my feet, I was preparing on getting ny team back into their PokeBalls, but something happened. I don't know what it was, but it felt like something in the air changed. I look back to where the Salamence got completely incinerated, only to see that it wasn't there. There were no remains or anything in the spot. Knowing Doc's simulations, he would have shown them in their defeated state just to be precise and accurate.
"If... it's not there then...."
I was too late in noticing that Salamence was directly above us. The dragon's terrifying roar sent our heads rolling upward. The dragon fired off three Dragon Pulses right at us. With no time to dodge, we were hit full force! I flew into one of the large rocks scattered around.
"Damn it. My back...." I looked around me too see Pidgeot knocked out and the others slowly trying to get up. I try to get back up on my feet, but I fall to my knees. I lift my head up and see Salamence flying at us again.
"Nidoking, we have to hit him hard! Blast him with an Ice Beam!"
Nidoking opened its mouth and let loose a ray of white ice towards Salamence, but the dragon kept flying straight towards us. I thought the thing had gone mad until I saw the ball of white and red energy that was formed between it's fangs. Salamence fired a Hyper Beam right at the Ice Beam, melting it with raw power. The beam hit Nidoking straight in the chest and sent him flying into a small mountain.
"Nidoking!" I yelled, hearing him groan and slip into unconsciousness. Luxray ran to my side and helped me on my feet. I pulled out Nidoking's and Pidgeot's PokeBalls and retrieved my Pokemon.
"This just got hairy, Luxray. That Salamence has some real fire power." Luxray nodded in agreement and began to growl as the dragon turned around for another round. It picked up its speed and flew right above us, using the wind to slow us down a bit.
"Damn it! He's trying to distract us while he recharges!" I said while blocking wind from my face.
"Come on, Monty, you can do it! Just a little longer!" Doc's voice echoed throughout the training chamber. I guess he finally activated the intercom system.
"Easy for you to say!" I said to the headset on my face. "You're not the one with a Salamence hunting for you! And, to top it off, two of my Pokemon are down, and Luxray can't handle this much longer!"
"Then I'd suggest you find a way to deal with it," replied Doc, and I let out a heavy groan.
I looked at the Salamence flying in circles, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
"I already know what I have to do."
I reached around my neck and unlatched the chain around it. From the chain, a ring with a bright green crystal came off. Luxray looked up into my eyes and knew what was going to happen. I reached into my jeans and pulled out my Itouch and set my battle playlist on. A symphony of acoustic guitars and heavy drums marched into my ears and I let out my held breath. I slipped the ring on my middle finger and closed my eyes. In that instant I felt the ground shake beneath my feet and I knew Salamence was right in front of us.
"I guess it time we end this little standoff. Right, Scales?"
I opened my eyes, revealing the more intense color of green in them. Suddenly, vibrant emerald colored flames appeared on the outside of each phone. Luxray's gleaming eyes also changed into the same color as my own, showing that we were in sync with each other.
We started the final act by running towards Salamence. Luxray's body started to emit electricity and I pointed right at the dragon.
"Discharge now!" Luxray fired and the beast replied with a Dragon Pulse. The attacks stalemated, making Salamence follow suit and rush us with its Dragon Claw technique.
"Dodge, then use Ice fang." We both ducked under the swipes and Luxray bit Salamence's left wing with frozen fangs. The beast let out a screech of pain while we ran behind it.
"Discharge again!" I commanded and saw a wave of lighting fly out of Luxray. The dragon roared and beat its wings together, forming a huge cyclone around it's being. The final technique this Salamence knew was Hurricane.
"Okay, Luxray, it's time to break through that wall with Wild Charge!" I said, getting on its back. Luxray roared as it ran and picked up speed. The electric energy consumed the two of us just as we neared the wall of cycling wind.
"Shatter!!!!!"
The Wild Charge ripped through the winds and got us right in the eye of the storm. I let out one more command as Luxray jumped toward the dragon.
"Full power Ice Fang!" The fangs coated themselves in ice and increased in size, they were aimed right for Salamence's neck. Just as Luxray made contact... everything vanished!
"Huh?" was all I could say before my partner and I hit the metal floor with a deadly amount of force. After rolling a few times, Luxray ended up on top of my face, ironically unconscious.
"Monty, time's up, get out of there and come check out what War found."
"Finally!" I said. With the lion on my face it sounded like a muffled cry.... This would happen to me.
I grabbed Lux's PokeBall and returned him into it. I stopped the music and pulled off my ring, returning to normal. I stood up, dusted myself off, and headed out the sliding doors. I took a moment and picked up my PokeBalls as I walked back to Doc's location....
"Great job guys. I guess next time we will just have try harder."
The double doors slid open, letting Doc and I step into a ballroom sized chamber. I lazily scan the arena, finding nothing but blinking lights and metallic emptiness.
